Counselling psychology in a Canadian context: Final report from the Executive Committee for a Canadian Understanding of Counselling Psychology
editCounselling psychology (CNPSY) in Canada is one of several domains of applied psychology practice (Young & Nichol, 2007) and is recognized as a distinct speciality by theCanadian Psychological Association and provincial and territorial boards of psychology. The purpose of this report is to examine the question, ―What is counselling psychology,as conceptualized and practiced in Canada?‖ This report not only sets out a definition that takes into consideration Canadian history and traditions but, more importantly, attempts to outline thedistinctiveness of CNPSY in Canada, particularly in contrast to similar applied professionswithin Canada.
